"WE ARE WORKING IN AN EFFORT TO INCREASE THE NUMBER OF TBAs TO 100 THOUSAND"Minister of National Education attended the opening ceremony of 72 Design Skill Workshops (TBAs) in Kayseri through a video conference.
Minister of National Education Ziya Selçuk stated during his speech at the opening ceremony of design skill workshops in the Central Anatolian city of Kayseri that some school administrators praised him for the establishment of workshops but he was just a mediator who works for the benefit of children.
Stating that he believed in the importance of design skill workshops, Selçuk went on to say that: "Education systems can be divided into two, first is "knowing" and the other is "being able to do it." If we focus on teaching only theories and letting them know, students will achieve to improve their memories but fail to improve their lives. They will be able to solve problems and may not find solutions. Due to this reason, "being able to do" is very important and this is directly related to design skill workshops."
Selçuk stressed that this must be supported with a scientific methodology and said, "We need our teachers to improve education contents and develop activity books. I will be happier if we achieve to raise the number of existing 8 thousand design skill workshops to 100 thousand. We are working in an effort to make it happen."
"The opinion of our teachers is changing"
Selçuk stated: "We know that our students use these workshops to have closer connection with their classmates, future professions, real life and economy and expect them to internalize them. When we establish even a single workshop in a school, we see that the color of this school and the opinion of view of teachers change."
"I wish our teachers to receive skill certificates and work in these workshops. When a teacher improves his or her skills in ceramics, robotics, automation or cyber security, there will be a change in his or her lectures."
"For us, it is a national duty"
Pointing out that workshops are crucial within this context, Minister Selçuk said, "Of course we have problems and heard complaints during the pandemic but our office is here for the solution. I show Kayseri as an example for other cities of the country. I am happy to see these efforts. We dream of children who say, 'We will display our contribution to humanity by carrying out our efforts according to a moral norm under this flag.' For us, it is our national duty."
