07 December 2022 20:40

Özer expressed his happiness to see that Canada and Türkiye continued contacts at the Ministerial and Presidential level adding that, "We are happy to see that education relations between Canada and Türkiey showed a development in the last 10 years. Total of 2,857 Turkish students are enrolled in higher education in your country and 66 percent of them are in your country with a state scholarship. Meanwhile, 218 Canadian students are studying in higher education in our country and 3 of them are in Türkiye with scholarship programs. I have no doubt that these students will reinforce the friendship bridge between our societies."

Noting that the increase in the number of students enrolled in higher education institutes in both countries will provide Canada and Türkiye the opportunity to boost education relations, Özer said that he is happy to see that Canadian students show great interest in the Türkiye scholarship program.

"We will be happy to boost our cooperation with Canada"
Özer went on to say that: "We will be happy to carry our relations to a higher level by signing agreements with Canada in the globalized education system. It is very important to sign the "Cultural Cooperation and Education Cooperation Agreement" draft which was prepared within this framework and submitted to the officials of our countries. We will be happy to boost our cooperation in education and culture with Canada.  Approximately three months ago, we hosted George Frey and an accompanying delegation from the Canadian Ministry of Education. I mentioned the importance of such agreements between our countries and he said that he agreed with me. This agreement will provide a legal ground for boosting our relations."

"I am happy to meet you in terms of increasing cooperation with Türkiye"
Meanwhile, Wyant said during the meeting that organizing joint activities is an important part of international cooperation strategy and they also prioritized interaction between the universities of both countries.

"Such type of cooperation is an important opportunity for our students and researchers and for our countries," stated Wyant.

Wyant said, "I happy to meet you and discuss possible cooperation agreements with Türkiye. I will immediately discuss options about how to improve our relations with my colleagues and other ministers. I believe that cooperating with Türkiye more will be an opportunity for us."

Ministers exchanged gifts after the meeting.
