MEB WILL ORGANIZE FREE COURSES FOR STUDENTS DURING THE SEMESTER HOLIDAY FOR THE FIRST TIME

16 December 2022 10:19

Minister Özer reminded that the Ministry of National Education had organized summer schools last summer for the first time in its history in order to provide all children the opportunity to have a qualified holiday and continue their learning adventure.

Noting that approximately 1 million children enrolled in free science and arts summer schools, mathematics and English summer course programs  during that last summer, Özer said, "Parents made complaints about the duration of these course programs which lasted for two or three weeks. Parents and students requested longer training and course programs. We will continue to organize summer schools in 2023 but we also organize course programs during the two week long semester holiday set for January 23 and February 3. For the first time in the history of our Ministry, these course programs will be open during the semester holiday."

New targets in preschool education before free lunch service
Answering a question if the Ministry will expand free lunch service to students with the new year, Özer said that the Ministry will continue to support students with its social policies in order to increase their accessibility to education.

Özer stated that the Ministry has been adamantly carrying out many social policies projects varying from conditional education aid to scholarship programs, from free transportation to free textbooks and free supplementary sources and went on to say that: "Some of these projects are related with free lunch service to students. There is false information about this subject as if we limit free lunch services with only students who benefit from transported education. Approximately, we serve free lunch to 1 million of these students and we serve free lunch at dormitories. On the other hand, we also started to provide free lunch service to 400,000 preschool students as a part of our social aid program in 2022. Now, one of the prior policies of our Ministry is to increase accessibility to preschool education. We have made investments as a part of our goal and increased the schooling rate of preschool education from 65 percent to 99 percent. Our goal in 2023 is to give free lunch to all students enrolled in preschool education."

MEB's tourism facilities will offer hotel comfort
Minister Özer stated that renewal of all teacher guest houses, practice hotels and on the job training institutes affiliated to the Ministry is among the other prior targets of the Ministry and noted that all these tourism facilities will be certified with ISO 9001 quality document.

Özer said that the Ministry will work in an effort to maintain ISO 9001 standards in all of its facilities in 2023.

"Not only teacher guest houses and education institutes but also dorms will offer hotel comfort and we will achieve to receive ISO 9001 certificate until the end of 2023," Özer added.
