Activities are on-going to ensure that students in formal and non-formal education institutions can get engaged in scouting and social and cultural activities in their free time.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


Sports and scouting schools have been opened in order to provide formal and non-formal education to students with leisure activities during the summer months, let them make new friends and teach them the habit of living together and sharing. There are 15 sports and scouting schools working under the Ministry of National Education near forests, lakes and seas.

 

 

 

 


SERVICES FOR STUDENTS

3. SELECTION, PLACEMENT AND EVALUATION EXAMS
In the measurement and evaluation center of the Ministry of National Education, exams are carried out such as public and private student selection and placement exams for transition to secondary education, exams for free boarding schools and state scholarship at all levels, open education school and open education high school semester exams, personnel recruitment and promotion exams for all public organizations and institutions, selection and evaluation exams for the executives at all levels in the Ministry of National Education, and teacher appointments and transfer transactions.

4. PHYSICAL EDUCATION, SPORTS AND SCOUTING
4.1. SPORTS ACTIVITIES

In the academic year 2001-2002, in-school, local, group, semi-, final and Turkey championship contests have been held with 4 million students participating (boys and girls) in the categories of minors, stars and adolescents.
In the minors, stars and adolescents categories of the school sports; individual and team training has been taken by boys and girls in the branches of athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, gymnastics, fencing, football, wrestling, judo, karate, skiing, cross, table tennis, chess volleyball, taekwondo and swimming. In these contests 94 group-, 45 semi-final- and 38 Turkey-championships have been obtained. Sports games for the hearing-impaired in the categories of stars and adolescents have been held by the Ministry of National Education keeping score of points in 5 categories: Athletics, football, basketball, table tennis and volleyball.
In order to expand and maintain folk dances and to make children and adolescents familiar with them and encourage them to engage in such activities in their free time, every year the Ministry of National Education holds folk dance contests in towns, cities, groups and as final contests among primary education (minors and stars categories), secondary education and non-formal education institutions.
In the academic year 2000-2001, Turkish folk dances contests were attended by 208.600 students-participants and 3.697 groups: 70.500 students from 1.380 primary education institutions in minors category; 58.000 students from 997 primary education institutions in stars category; 67.800 students from secondary education institutions; 12.300 participants from 255 non-formal education institutions. Including the students participating in school activities, about 3 million students are involved in folk dances.

The goal of the Ministry of Education is to increase this figure of 4 million boys and girls in the in-school, local, group, semi final and Turkey championships in the categories of minors, stars and adolescents and to direct each student to a branch in line with his/her interests and abilities.

- In 2000; 50 courses were opened for training scout leaders attended by 4.257 scouts
- In 2001; 46 courses were opened for training scout leaders attended by 4.227 scouts
which totals 8.484 scout leaders.

4.2. SCOUT HOUSES
It has been planned that scout students and their leaders being educated in formal and non-formal education institutions are engaged in scouting activities, that such activities are expanded all over the country and that the scouts and their leaders involved in these activities work in coordination and program.

Scout Camps are places where practical work is performed in relation to the theoretical studies covered in the course books during the year on scouting methods and principles, the habit of living together is taught, and projects for social service are delivered. In 2001, 113 scouting camps are opened and attended by 15.600 scouts and 239 scout leaders.

4.2.2. Student Training Camps
Training camps are attended by students being educated in the primary and secondary education institutions all over the country. These are preferably seaside camps where sports and cultural activities are performed during the summer months.
